Join me for a relaxing hike and overnight in fairytaile-like snow-covered mountains!
Walk on the snow above the clouds, with some spots needing snowshoes to navigate the deeper snow, relax in front of gorgeous panoramic views, and set up a cosy camp right in the snow.
The temperature decided to dip to a crisp -10ºC overnight!
Conditions
Mostly sunny above 1 000 m until midnight, then windstorm (70 km/h) with snowfall (10 cm) through the night, wind gusts and overcast the next day.
- Temperature -10ºC to -2ºC
- Altitude 1 400 m to 1 800 m
- Snow cover 15 cm - 30 cm
- Avalanche risk level 2 (out of 5)
Notes
I had a windstorm and some light snowfall in the middle of the night. My USB-C charging cable was faulty and wasn't recharging my phone when I hit the hay, so I stopped filming to save battery to be on the safe side.
The clothes and sleep system kept me toasty warm and perfectly dry. The tent held up great against the high winds during the night, but man, it was like a horror movie with how loud that frozen DCF material can get!
And then there's the stove situation (thanks, BRS 3000T). It was a superstar until it decided to take an unplanned break. Hopefully, it stopped working after dinner. Maybe some water or condensation got inside. It randomly started working again two days later…
Lesson learned: next time, bring a more reliable and sturdy stove, especially when your survival depends on melting snow for drinking water!
